Incarcerated Youth Education

Public concern for educating incarcerated youth is growing as the rate of juvenile crime increases. Over recent years, juveniles have been responsible for one in five violent crimes.  The U. S. Justice Department has reported that the juvenile arrest rate for violent crimes has doubled over the last 15 years. The current murder rate among teens has sharply risen in the past decade, according to the department.

Education programs for incarcerated youth are a low priority in many states. It is imperative that adjudicated and incarcerated youth receive the educational services needed to help those who have had a prior history of truancy and test significantly below grade level. Many have been diagnosed with learning, behavioral, or other disabilities and need individual attention to assist with their learning

Giving Back Enterprises in conjunction with the Black Women Lawyers Foundation of Michigan are working with communities and bonding with professional athletes, concerned individuals and organizations to continue to address this critical societal need.  With increased support, these youth can look forward to productive lives.
